Vehicle Impound

Requirements and appointments for vehicles held by the Sheriff's Office.

  • Storage fee: $25 per day
  • Release hours: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00–4:00 PM
  • Appointment required before pickup
  • Registered owner must provide valid identification, registration, and current insurance

VIN Inspections

Out-of-state vehicles require an inspection before a Kansas tag can be issued.

  • Inspection fee: $20
  • Bring a properly completed title and valid driver's license
  • The vehicle must have a legal tag; one-day tags are available from the County Treasurer
  • Oversized vehicles should park on Broadway in the north parking stalls

Open-records requests

All Barton County KORA requests must be directed to the Barton County Clerk's Office or submitted through Barton County's official NextRequest portal. The Sheriff's Office does not accept KORA requests through this website.

What to expect

  • Describe the records you are seeking as specifically as possible.
  • The county must provide a response within three business days, but additional time may be needed to locate, review, or compile records.
  • Reasonable fees may be charged for staff time, copying, or reproduction, and advance payment may be required.

Records and exemptions

KORA permits inspection and copying of public records that are not exempt from disclosure. Criminal-investigation records, criminal-intelligence information, certain personnel and medical records, and information protected by other laws may be withheld or redacted.
