9-1-1 Addressing

Communications assigns rural addresses under County Resolution 2010-17. Post assigned numbers permanently at the main road entrance. Numbers should be at least three inches high, legible, and preferably reflective.

• Avenues run north and south; roads run east and west.
• Use the assigned address when calling 9-1-1.
• Update the address associated with telephone and utility accounts.

Burn Permits

Permits do not expire, but Communications must be notified before each burn.

• Call 620-793-1920 before burning.
• Burn during daylight with winds below 15 mph.
• Do not allow smoke to cross a roadway.
• Countywide burn bans may prohibit open burning.
• Shingles, tires, furniture, household trash, and recyclable materials may not be burned.

Weather Preparedness

Tornado sirens are tested Tuesdays at noon when conditions permit. Barton County does not issue an all-clear and does not maintain a public storm shelter.

• Take shelter immediately when sirens sound during severe weather.
• Call 9-1-1 for tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, or dangerous flooding.
• Do not call 9-1-1 to ask why sirens are sounding.
